Our History
DeMet’s Candy Company was originally started in 1898 as a candy store business and soda fountain shop by George DeMet of Chicago. One store quickly became three stores, and over the next half-century the DeMet’s family built a delicious, thriving business in the Chicago area, all the while creating and perfecting their signature TURTLES candies.
In the 1950s, the DeMet’s family sold the company to a Canadian chocolate manufacturer. A series of mergers and acquisitions followed, including a purchase of DeMet’s by Nestlé in 1988. Nestlé realized the sleeping giant they had, and grew the DeMet’s TURTLES® business throughout the U.S. and Canada.
In 2007, Signature Snacks acquired the DeMet’s brand from Nestlé. Upon bringing the DeMet’s brand on board, Signature Snacks saluted the rich tradition and heritage of the company by renaming itself the DeMet’s Candy Company.
Since 2007, DeMet’s Candy Company has grown the TURTLES business as well as other popular brands, which include FLIPZ®, TREASURES® and STIXX®. DeMet’s Candy Company is currently headquartered in Stamford, CT with production facilities based in the northeast U.S.
In 2010, DeMet's Candy Company acquired the TRUENORTH® brand of nut snacks from Frito-Lay. TRUENORTH® nut clusters combine a variety of nuts, fruits, and other wholesome ingredients to create a surprisingly delicious snacking experience. They are a satisfying, scrumptious way to experience the goodness of nuts.
Today, DeMet's Candy Company makes many popular brands, including TURTLES®, FLIPZ®, TREASURES®, and TRUENORTH®. We like to say that DeMet's Candy Company makes Mmmmmm! DeMet's Candy Company is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, with production facilities based in the northeast U.S.
