Q. Why does some of the chocolate appear to be white?
A. This is most likely a result of chocolate bloom. Chocolate contains cocoa butter or oils in its formulation that tend to separate from one another when the product is subjected to extreme temperatures. The physical appearance of the product can look cloudy grey or white or contain spots. This can happen during distribution and/or storage. We recommend chocolate products be stored between 60-70 degrees to avoid chocolate bloom.
Q. Is bloom harmful?
A. In general, bloom is harmless. If you are concerned or suspect something other than bloom, do not eat the product.
Q. Does bloom mean that the product is old?
A. Age is not a factor regarding bloom; even fresh chocolate products can become bloomed.
Q. My product tastes stale. What should I do?
A. All products that leave our facilities are shipped fresh and in good condition. Past investigation shows that the product may not have been stored correctly during distribution and/or shipping. Storage conditions greatly affect the quality of candy, especially chocolate products. If it is stored for long time periods, especially at warm temperatures, the quality of the product will deteriorate leaving the product tasting stale and/or ill-flavored. Other factors that might contribute to poor quality of the product include storage near scented items or in areas of high humidity.
Q. Where can I buy your products outside of North America?
A. Currently, the only DeMet’s authorized dealer outside of North America is CyberCandy in the United Kingdom. You can find our products on their website at www.cybercandy.co.uk.
